“What should have been a pro forma order of business, and a night of celebration and of following city tradition, devolved into dysfunction,” Lee told SFGATE.
“The charter says that the council is made up of five people, so my point throughout all of this has been very simple,” Nash told SFGATE. “I want to have a full complement of council members seated so that we can each have equal voice in selecting the mayor and deputy mayor.” Lee says Newsom and Nash are holding up the mayoral appointment in an effort to force the other councilmembers to appoint someone who agrees with their ideology instead, giving them the 3-2 majority on some of the most pressing issues facing the council.
