Published: Oct. 12, 2023, 10:40 a.m.A 51-year-old Paterson woman was arrested Wednesday and charged with stabbing her 5-year-old granddaughter repeatedly in their home.
Aurora Villacorta is charged with second and third-degree aggravated assault, weapons offenses and second-degree endangering the welfare of a child, according to Passaic County Prosecutor Camelia M. Valdes. Police were called about 4:10 p.m. to the home in the area of Carroll Street and Godwin Avenue, where they found the girl had been wounded from multiple stab wounds, Valdes said.Villacorta was held in a local jail ahead of a first-appearance court hearing scheduled for Thursday. Attorney information for Villacorta was not immediately available.
No motive was given for the attack. Paterson Mayor Andre Sayegh said the child was in stable condition Thursday morning.
