'The demand and disruption being caused to other visitors, businesses and residents is unacceptable'
Police dealt with 'multiple disturbances' across beaches, roads and rail stations as the region was hit by scorching bank holiday heat and huge crowds headed to the coast.
Officers were called to a series of incidents throughout Monday as thousands flocked to popular beauty spots, including Ainsdale and Formby, with some areas becoming heavily congested as visitors began their journeys home. Superintendent Phil Mullally said police responded to “multiple reports of disturbances” across the region, with demand placing significant pressure on services. He said officers were attending incidents at train stations, on beaches and on the roads as crowds surged across the coastline.
He said: “We are receiving multiple reports of disturbances at train stations, on beaches and the roads. While we are dealing with these reports, the demand and disruption being caused to other visitors, businesses and residents is unacceptable.
"My advice to anyone visiting our coastline today is please be patient and respectful as you make your way home. Check the following places for any travel advice, cancellations and issues on the roads, and please respect those who live in these areas.should be enjoyed, but not at the expense of other people on the roads and living in our communities. Thank you for your cooperation and stay safe.

The hot weather brought significant pressure onSefton Council has warned drivers to avoid heading to the coast after car parks at both Ainsdale and Formby beaches reached full capacity, the A spokesperson for the council said: "The sun is out and our car parks at Ainsdale and Formby beaches are currently closed as they are both at capacity.
To avoid long waits, we highly recommend delaying your arrival or considering alternative transportation.
"With temperatures expected to remain high into the evening, further travel disruption is possible across roads and public transport networks.
