Kylie Jenner, Julia Fox, Lourdes Leon, and more celebrated the life and legacy of Thierry Mugler at a new exhibit exploring the work of the late designer.
You know those moments in fashion history that sort of shake the world? The kind of fashion that’s transcendental and wonderful and weird and beautiful and somehow speaking to you and an era all at once? Well then, you must know Mugler.
On Tuesday night, the fashion house kicked off the final stop of “Thierry Mugler: Couturissime” with a soiree at the Brooklyn Museum. The brand invited a bevy of intriguing guests to preview the exhibit and revel in performances byand more as music filled the museum—its walls emblazoned with the Mugler logo for the evening.and more arrived to celebrate the late designer’s legacy.
Inside the exhibition, a sign echoes Cadwallader’s sentiment, reading, “For Mugler, latex and vinyl are ‘classic’ materials,” beneath a photograph ofMannequins display variations of the brand’s couture creations, framed photos immortalize the designs, while film gives past moments new life. Bottles of perfume and the cover of a January 1993 issue ofphotographed by Helmut Newton, wears Mugler are also on display.
“What’s so special about this show, this format of this exhibition, this is the fifth city that it’s traveling to, but it was actually designed by Mr. Mugler, with], the curator. So what’s interesting here is that it started with a dialogue between the curator and the man himself. ‘What are your favorite 50 things? What are your favorite 100 things?’ It’s really about different themes and undercurrents that are in his work.
