Montgomery, Alabama
Two new people will be at the helm of the Montgomery Public School system while the Montgomery County Board of Education looks for permanent replacements for the superintendent and the CSFO. It has been just a few weeks since Dr. Melvin Brown resigned as Superintendent of MPS, but the Montgomery County Board of Education didn’t waste any time, and Tuesday evening they voted in Dr. Brown’s Chief of Staff Jamie Wilson as the Interim Superintendent.
Her duties officially start on October 30. “Right now priorities are to make sure we have stability within the district, that our students feel safe to come to school, that our teachers and our staff feel supported and so that’s my first priority. We want to continue on.
Another important position was temporarily filled Tuesday night. A woman who has worked alongside CSFO Arthur Watts for the past five years has been named Interim Chief School Financial Officer. Pamela Watkins will start her duties on November 1, and she says she is excited to continue the progress Watts has made.
