The assault and robbery of a teen at a Waffle House in Mobile went unsolved for nearly a month — that is until police arrested a man on Monday in connection with a second robbery, that one of a pizza delivery driver.

Mobile police charged 19-year-old Alvin Cartius Pate with first-degree robbery, second-degree assault, third-degree robbery and first-degree criminal mischief. They took him into custody on Monday.

The 17-year-old victim told police he had been inside the restaurant when an unknown male approached him and said his vehicle lights were malfunctioning. When the victim walked outside, the suspect assaulted him with a knife and took his car keys, according to police. That is, until Sunday, when Mobile police responded to another call, this one at a Papa John’s restaurant on Cottage Hill Road.

Police said Sunday’s incident finally led them to Pate, who was taken into custody Monday. As of Tuesday morning, Pate remained in the Mobile Metro Jail, held without bond pending an initial court appearance scheduled for Wednesday.
