) - A judge today sentenced a Mobile man to life in prison for the fatal shooting of a man in his doorway in October 2020.against Leo Alexander in a case that hinged on whether Machavellia “Mike” Bagsby was just inside or just outside his door during the shooting. Had the jury determined he was inside in his home, it would have been capital murder and automatic sentence of life in prison without possibility of parole.
The jury instead found Alexander guilty of non-capital intentional murder. That means he will be eligible for parole. He will have to serve 15 years before his first parole hearing. Prosecutors alleged that Alexander shot the Bagsby at least five times because he was angry that his ex-wife was dating the victim.Former Bayou La Batre police officer indicted on child rape charges by Mobile County grand juryControversy over changes to city ordinances sparks another City Council discussionControversy over changes to city ordinances sparks another Mobile City Council discussion
