According to MCSO , Wednesday, July 17, 2024, Mobile County Sheriff’s Office Interstate Interdiction Deputies conducted a traffic stop on I-10 near the Alabama Welcome Center. MCSO Deputy observed the vehicle turning into the Welcome Center and followed. When Deputy was approaching vehicle, the driver appeared to be attempting to flee while the passenger was reaching towards the floorboard area. Additional MCSO Deputies arrived to assist and secured the scene.

The driver of the vehicle Lemarco Quentez Burkett and passenger, Wilvontae Jerrell Tallie were in a 2019 Chevrolet Camaro listed as stolen from Texas. On the passengers side floorboard of the vehicle was a short-barrelled AR-15 loaded with safety off. Both suspects are from Montgomery, Alabama. Burkett was arrested for receiving stolen property 1st degree and firearm possession/sale short bar. Tallie was arrested for firearm possession/sale short bar.

“This traffic stop could have been a very dangerous situation because the AR-15 was loaded with the safety off and ready to use,” says Sheriff Paul Burch. “Our deputies did a great job on this traffic stop. We recovered a stolen vehicle, arrested two people who most likely stole it, seized an illegal AR-15 and most importantly, no one was hurt during the process”.
