This makes two fatal crashes, months apart, involving a motorcyclist and an MPD officer.
Last week we obtained the crash report that details the accident between motorcyclist 67-year-old Sumner Howard and an MPD officer.We’ve learned MPD has reached out to another agency to take a second look at the wreck.The DA couldn’t provide any details because the investigation is protected under grand jury secrecy.Both cases are being investigated by the DA’s office.
On July 9, motorcyclist Howard died when he struck an MPD cruiser at the intersection of Old Shell Road and Mobile Infirmary Boulevard. According to the crash report we obtained, the officer was responding to an emergency call driving south on Mobile Infirmary with his blue lights on but not his siren.According to the crash report Officer Callegari was speeding through a malfunctioning traffic light on Zeigler Boulevard and Cody Road.
FOX10 News has reached out to MPD to get more information but they won’t confirm the officer’s name, status, or which emergency call he was responding to.
