Screen Rant is pleased to present an exclusive first look at Mister Mammoth, a noir-tinged crime comic from mattkindt and JeanDenisPendanx. Mister Mammoth is a gigantic detective with a love for soap operas and a surprising commitment to pacifism.
This March, Dark Horse Comics will introduce readers to Mister Mammoth, and Screen Rant is pleased to present an exclusive preview. The hardcover graphic novel collects superstar writer Matt Kindt’s Mister Mammoth in English for the first time. Drawn by Jean-Denis Pendanx, who will be making his American comics debut, the graphic novel follows the adventures of a heavily-scarred, pacifist private investigator as he tries to crack the biggest case of his career.
SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY Matt Kindt is one of the most exciting writers working today. A New York Times best-selling author and artist, Kindt has been behind a number of books, both creator-owned and for major publishers; he is best known as the creator of Mind MGMT and the co-writer of BRZRKR, as well as one of the architects of the rebooted Valiant Universe.
Kindt and Pendanx have seeded some intriguing questions in the preview alone. However, most fascinating is the detail that Mister Mammoth is an avowed pacifist. While he may look terrifying, he's near unique among noir detectives in not being able to settle disagreements with fists or gunfire. That means he'll need to be especially smart about how he uses his intimidating appearance, given he's not actually willing to back up that intimidation with violence.
Mr. Mammoth is the classic private detective crime story set-up…but the detective is a 7 foot tall guy covered in scars who happens to be a pacifist with a passion for soap operas. I’m not sure if he’s solving the perfect crime or committing it. Mister Mammoth will also play with the nature of reality and perception. Kindt has revealed that Mammoth is a fan of soap operas, including one that may not actually exist. As Mammoth searches the streets for his quarry, he must also come to terms with his mysterious past. Mister Mammoth, coming soon from Dark Horse Comics, promises to be a crime-thriller unlike any other.
