Missourians voted in favor of a ballot measure on Tuesday to allow abortions up to fetal viability.
Missourians voted for a ballot measure called Amendment 3 on Tuesday to allow abortions up to fetal viability.Abortion rights have been a major issue in the 2022 midterm election and this year's election after the U.S. Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade in the summer of 2022, which ended the U.S. constitutional right to abortion and left the issue up to the states.
What Was Amendment 3?Amendment 3 to Missouri's Constitution removed the state's strict abortion ban and made abortion legal up until the fetus is viable, which is generally considered to be around 20 to 25 weeks, according to the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists .The ballot measure allows abortion after fetal viability if it would protect the life or health of the pregnant patient.
