Two people were killed in a collision involving a Missouri City police officer Thursday night.

A Missouri City police officer collided with a mother and her son in the Quail Valley area on Cartwright Road around 8:45 p.m. The victims, identified as Angela Steward, 53, and her son Mason Steward, 16, both residents of Stafford, lost their lives in the accident. Mason had celebrated his birthday just the day before.

The officer driving the patrol car was taken to the hospital and has been released. Adding to the complexity of the situation, an unidentified male was discovered in the back of the patrol vehicle over two hours into the investigation.
