Right knee sprain will sideline Padres catching prospect Ethan Salas for roughly four weeks, likely ending his campaign at Double-A San Antonio
The 17-year-old catcher will be down for roughly four weeks with a right knee sprain, a timeline that makes it extremely difficult to return in time for the start of Double-A San Antonio’s Texas League playoffs on Sept. 19.
Salas is expected to return to San Antonio, where he can continue to build rapport with the Double-A pitching staff and gain valuable experience in game-planning for the postseason run. The top prize in this year’s international amateur class, Salas debuted with low Single-A Lake Elsinore days before his 17birthday and hit .267/.350/.487 with nine homers and 35 RBIs in 48 games before he was promoted to high Single-A Fort Wayne.
