California's Democratic leadership said they were not made aware to the incoming of a bus-load of migrants being transported from Texas on Saturday, following the arrival of the undocumented immigrants.
Some 40 people, including 11 children, from Central and South America were bused out of Texas immigration facilities to Los Angeles—giving officials in the Golden State less than one day to make preparations, according to Mayor Karen Bass' office.The Los Angeles Times reports that 42 migrants arrived voluntarily on the bus around 12:40 p.m. in the second arrival in the last three weeks.
Texas Gov. Greg Abbott began a migrant busing program in 2022, and has so-far justified the move as being the result of overcrowding in Texas immigration facilities, as well as politics. Buses have begun being sent to “sanctuary cities” with Democratic leadership, where undocumented immigrants are afforded additional protections from police.Abbott has since transported buses of migrants to Washington, D.C., New York City, Chicago, Philadelphia and Denver, with around 23,000 people to-date having been bused out of Texas, Abbott claims.
