The Michael Jackson biopic Michael conquers several box office records on preview night, and is on track to break several more with its debut.

This puts it in the same range as multiple major contemporary blockbusters across genres, including Oppenheimer , Project Hail Mary , and Beetlejuice Beetlejuice . 2026's Michael opened overseas in many markets on Wednesday, breaking multiple records as it earned a cumulative $18.5 million internationally. Per The Hollywood Reporter, this includes earning the best opening day for a music biopic in the UK and Ireland, Italy, and Australia, the best opening day for any biopic in France, and the biggest previews ever for a non-superhero and non-franchise movie in Brazil.
