That’s the prevailing sentiment from some true believers in the metaverse who say Apple Inc.’s mixed-reality goggles have vindicated their faith in the concept after months with no news and even some derision regarding it — even though Apple Chief Executive Tim Cook didn’t once utter the word “metaverse” during the June 5 reveal of the Vision Pro.

For nearly a year, the rise of generative AI all but extinguished talk about the metaverse, a collection of virtual 3-D spaces where people can socialize, collaborate and play that Facebook parent Meta Platforms Inc. META and others embraced in 2021 and 2022 as the future of technology.
Business leaders say they are most likely to explore metaverse technologies for onboarding and training , interacting with work colleagues and creating virtual content for customers , according to market researcher PwC’s 2022 US Metaverse Survey. Ironically, it took the Vision Pro introduction from Apple to jump-start interest in the metaverse and rekindle the conversation, according to developers.“We haven’t used that word [metaverse] for some time. I give credit to Tim Cook for explaining to the common person what metaverse is.
