Since December 2020, we have used the last month of the year to honor our fellow Alabamians who made our state a better place during the past year. It was necessary to do in 2020 after the pandemic turned our lives upside down, and in 2021 we weren’t quite back to the “new normal” we thought we would be.This December, we are honoring 22 Alabamians who helped make a difference in 2022, whether that’s through representation in college sororities or receiving the presidential medal of honor.
While the pandemic waned in 2022, people across the state needed hope, guidance, and someone to look up to during the year. These honorees did their part and more to find the good in the world and share it with the rest of us, even when times were tough. As always, choosing just 22 people was hard. But, we are proud to honor these people as we close out 2022.
There is no ranking and the people are listed in no particular order. There are lawyers, businesspeople, politicians, coaches, a judge, and leaders whose voices we heard above the noise. They made news locally and sometimes nationally, but it’s how they led our state this year and made a difference that made them stand out to our staff.
