McKinney Fire Chief Danny Kistner to retire

After 11 years with McKinney Fire Department, Chief Danny Kistner said he will retire Jan. 30.

“For that, he has much to be proud of, and we wish him all the best in his future endeavors,” Grimes wrote in aMayor George Fuller said at the height of the pandemic, the McKinney Fire Department under the guidance of Kistner helped vaccinate the public “because there was a deep need to get shots to our most vulnerable citizens as quickly as possible.”

Kistner credits response to the COVID-19 pandemic to his team, who provided personal protective equipment and more than 18,000 COVID-19 tests to long-term care facilities and other agencies that lacked supplies. Also under Kistner’s leadership, the department grew to two battalions, added a logistics division and warehouse, increased administrative staff and launched a community healthcare program.
