Restaurants will start using a reusable spindle to mix a McFlurry that will be washed between uses. The customer will receive a black spoon like the ones served with sundaes.

These Oreo Shamrock McFlurry desserts include the "spindle" spoons that McDonald's said in October 2023 it will be removing. Customers instead will get a small black spoon - the same one served with its sundaes.Well, the spoon serves as a spindle that employees use to mix the toppings into the soft serve ice cream. The spindle spoon then is given to the customer with the McFlurry.

McDonald’s said its restaurants nationwide are “transitioning to a reusable spindle that’s swapped out and cleaned after each McFlurry is made.”“This small change will help reduce single-use plastic waste in restaurants – while giving customers the same delicious McFlurry they know and love.
