Mayor Eric Adams signed a package of lithium-ion battery safety bills Monday, as fires sparked by those batteries are on the rise. ZinniaDee_TV reports.
"That fire was only one example of the fire safety challenges created by these batteries," said City Councilmember Oswald Feliz."We need to make sure products sold in our city our safe for New Yorkers."
In another bill signed into law, all e-bikes sold in New York City will require a special seal of approval - UL, for Underwriter Laboratories - a company that tests consumer products for fire safety. "The way this legislation works is it requires certification of the e-bike," said Dr. Rob Slone, of UL Solutions."It looks after not just the battery but the charging system, the bike's mechanical integrity, its design."
