After Donald Trump was convicted of 34 felonies in Manhattan on Thursday, his estranged niece has said he should 'absolutely' go to jail.The former president and presumptive 2024 Republican presidential nominee was found guilty of 34 counts of falsifying business records in connection to a hush money payment made to adult film actress Stormy Daniels during his 2016 election campaign.
Merchan said the former president was clearly audible while doing so, according to Newsweek reporter Katherine Fung, who was in the courtroom for the second day of trial when the jury selection continued.The judge responded by stating that he would not tolerate attempts to intimidate witnesses.While Trump walked out of the courtroom as a free man after his conviction, experts told Newsweek that Merchan did have the option to sentence and send him to jail immediately.
