'We have found that in a lot of those cases [of banning 'To Kill a Mockingbird'], the people banning the book have not bothered to read the book,' says Mary Badham, an Alabama native who played Scout in the 1962 'Mockingbird' film.

In the aftermath, “My mother and I never came to terms,” Badham says. “She died three weeks after I graduated from high school.”
