Marvel has named a shocking MCU hero as the Hulk’s spiritual opposite. In Crypt of Shadows #1, Victor Strange, the vampiric brother of Doctor Strange, introduces chilling stories of terror starring some of Marvel’s best characters. In the story “A Soul Worth Hunting,” the Werewolf by Night encounters the Hulk. As the two trade blows, it becomes apparent the two share a deeper bond than fans realize.
“A Soul Worth Hunting” is written by Sarah Gailey and drawn by Eder Messias. Jack Russell, the Werewolf by Night, encounters the Hulk in the forest. The Hulk has just broken free of a trap set by Kraven the Hunter, who seeks to kill the Hulk using the Empyrion Blade. By doing so, Kraven will be able to hunt souls. Realizing that the Werewolf will work just as well, Kraven tries to decide which to kill.
The Werewolf, Like Hulk, is a Monster Werewolves, led by the Werewolf by Night, entered the Marvel Universe in the early 1970s, thanks to a loosening of the Comics Code Authority, which previously prohibited them. The Werewolf was Jack Russell, who first transformed on the night of his 18th birthday. Vainly seeking a cure for his condition, Russell would meet up and fight alongside some of Marvel’s biggest icons.
The Hulk and the Werewolf Are Two Sides of the Same Coin Now, Marvel has revealed that the Hulk and the Werewolf are spiritual opposites. Since the curse of the werewolf was visited upon him, Jack Russell sought a cure, and only in recent times has he stopped and embraced being one. The quest to overcome his lycanthropy drove Russell to some of the darkest corners of the Marvel Universe. On the other hand, the Hulk hates Bruce Banner, and would love nothing more than to be rid of him.
