Marvel Comics is taking the X-Men into a darker direction with its upcoming horror-themed “Midnight Universe.”
which reimagines mutants within a world dominated by vampires. The new series is scheduled to launch in August as part of Marvel’s expanding horror-focused publishing line.
Marvel Comics has officially unveiled the first preview pages for Midnight X-Men #1. The new comic series will launch in August and is expected to introduce darker reinterpretations of several well-known Marvel characters. The project is written by Jonathan Hickman with artwork from Matteo Della Fonte. Marvel also revealed a special variant cover illustrated by Björn Barends alongside the first-look images.
The comic will serve as the opening chapter in Marvel’s newly announced “Midnight” publishing line. , the story is set in a version of New York City where tensions between vampires and mutant factions are beginning to spiral out of control. They added, “The shadows of New York City are stalked by vampires and the mutant empyres. The sword of Damocles hangs over the peace between these two species and the factions within them.
An outright war is brewing and the unturned will be caught in the crossfire. ” Marvel also confirmed that the “Midnight Universe” will continue expanding beyond the X-Men title. Upcoming projects include Midnight Fantastic Four from Benjamin Percy and Kev Walker, alongside Midnight Spider-Man from Phillip Kennedy Johnson and Scie Tronc.
