ICYMI: Mandryk: Another budget revolves around health, COVID-19 costs
Any hope of Premier Scott Moe’s government escaping this reality runs headlong into the release of the 2022-23 annual Saskatchewan budget today. We need a thoughtful, detailed plan to deal with this reality.
Given that the mantra from Moe and Health Minister Paul Merriman has been all about “living with COVID,” shouldn’t we consider some sort of examination to see what we did wrong? Wouldn’t such an examination help avoid ongoing costs we are about to see today?taken its toll on the economy — as we will see in the 2022-23 provincial budget numbers.
What can’t be lost, though, is that you have to deal with health and the COVID-19 aftermath before you can deal with most anything else. But dealing with the health issues should continue to be Finance Minister Donna Harpauer’s foremost priority. The success of this budget will be less about recovering revenues and more about dealing with health issues as we emerge out of COVID-19.
