Herman Lee Hobbs, who is already in prison, was arrested on suspicion of killing a woman found in a Bay Area cornfield in 1980.

Holly Ann Campiglia, 21, was found dead in Dixon in August 1980. Solano County investigators arrested Herman Lee Hobbs in February 2023 on suspicion of her murder.A California man with a disturbing history of rape and murder accusations has been arrested on suspicion of killing a woman in Dixon four decades ago, police announced this week.

Hobbs’ imprisonment for armed robbery didn’t last long. By 1975, he was back on the streets. He moved to Rio Linda, a block away from 13-year-old Terri Pata. Pata left her junior high one day in January 1975 after feeling sick with a headache. She never made it home. Nine days later, her body was found stuffed in a drainpipe nearby; she had been raped and stabbed to death.

This was only the beginning. That same year, the skull of a woman was found by loggers in the Yuba County foothills. DNA testing identified the remains as Brenda Ann Tucker, 29, who went missing in 1994 from her home near Oroville. Tucker’s loved ones knew Hobbs — he’d sometimes even been a houseguest of theirs in the 1990s.

"I just kept hoping she would show up one day with grandchildren," Sally Campiglia told the Courier-Post,"but with each year I'd lose a little hope."
