Police said the man ultimately surrendered after locking himself in his home.
HOUSTON — A man was injured in a shootout with Houston police officers on the west side of town Saturday morning, HPD said.
According to police, a neighbor was walking his dog when he heard two gunshots. He noticed the suspect, a man in his 30s, sitting in a driveway handling a gun. That's when the neighbor went inside and called police. The officers called for backup and a perimeter was set up around the home. Police were able to make contact with the man's mother, who was inside the home. She told officers that the suspect did suffer gunshot wounds, but did not want to comply or surrender. At some point, she brought the man's gun outside and set it on the ground before going back inside, according to investigators.The suspect surrendered to officers after they advanced on the home.
The two officers both have 7 years of experience with HPD and will both be placed on administrative leave while an investigation is underway.
