Saskatoon fire crews responded Thursday around 5:50 a.m. following a report of a fire at a motel in the 1800 block of Idylwyld Drive North. Members arriving at Thriftlodge Saskatoon encountered smoke and flames coming from one suite, according to Saskatoon Fire Department in a news release. Firefighters forced the suite door open, located the fire and found the body of an occupant inside.We deliver the local news you need in these turbulent times on weekdays at 3 p.m.
Saskatoon police in a news release said investigators determined the man’s death was not suspicious and that the fire was non-criminal in nature. The fire department said members searched unaffected units to make sure all occupants had evacuated the motel and that the fire hadn’t spread. According to police, the fire department and provincial coroner took over the scene. The investigation is continuing.
