The shooting was reported around 1:30 a.m. Wednesday, about a half hour after police were called to a solo-vehicle crash on Marina Parkway near Sandpiper Way
A man was fatally shot by a Chula Vista police sergeant early Wednesday after he allegedly fired at officers as he tried to exit his disabled car in Chula Vista’s Marina area, officials said.
Campbell said the Chula Vista patrol officer asked the driver to turn off the car and get out, but he did not comply. Officers next deployed pepper balls into the car, Campbell said. At that point, officers thought they saw a gun in the car.
