Man drove drunk, lied to detectives about crash that killed passenger, officials say

The man told investigators that we he a passenger in the car when he was actually the one driving, investigators said.

Chris Sheldon | NJ Advance Media for NJ.comThe single-car crash happened on Dec. 1 shortly before 2:30 a.m. When multiple agencies arrived, they determined the car, which had three people inside it, hit a highway divider on Route 46 West in Hasbrouck Heights, according to a release from the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office.

Another passenger, who was not identified, was also taken there and remained hospitalized Monday afternoon in critical condition, authorities said. He was released from the hospital and taken to the Bergen County Jail where he was held ahead of his first court appearance.
