Joseph Aguayo-Quinones left an argument with his victim, returned with a knife, and stabbed him to death. The Harrisburg man said it was out of self-defense.
When the Harrisburg Bureau of Police responded to shots fired in the area of South 13th and Derry streets at 11:30 p.m. March 16, 2021, they thought the man they were speaking to, Joseph Aguayo-Quinones, was the victim of a failed shooting.
The two had an argument 20-30 minutes prior to the altercation, according to Erin Varley, a deputy district attorney in Dauphin County. Aguayo-Quinones first said that Salvatore Gianquitto was bullying him. At first, Aguayo-Quinones told investigators someone else stabbed Gianquitto. But at trial, he said when he came back to the scene, Gianquitto pulled a knife on him. Aguayo-Quinones said he stabbed Gianquitto in self-defense.
“It would be impossible for someone to get stabbed, close the knife while bleeding and throw it to the ground,” Varley said.
