The hate crime incident occurred Tuesday afternoon on Interstate 880 near Hegenberger Road.
OAKLAND – A 61-year-old Newark man has been arrested on suspicion of shouting racial slurs at a fellow driver earlier this week on Interstate 880 in Oakland and then trying to ram the victim’s vehicle, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The incident, which was recorded and shared on social media, occurred around 4 p.m. Tuesday on southbound I-880 near Hegenberger Road, the CHP said in a statement. Taken from the victim’s vehicle, the video captures a man in a Jeep Wrangler shouting racial slurs at the victim. The man in the Jeep then appears to try to ram the victim’s vehicle, but loses control and crashes into a wall on the right shoulder of the highway.Officers with the CHP Oakland area office, with the assistance of the Golden Gate Division Special Investigations Unit, were able to identify the man in the Jeep as Tracy Robert Blackwell, according to the CHP.
