Shichun Lin, 58, was arrested and charged with murder for the November 7, 2024 stabbing of homeless man Shing Kan Cheung. Lin was escorted from the 5th Precinct stationhouse in handcuffs on December 19, a day after he was formally charged with first- and second-degree murder in Cheung's killing. Cheung was found fatally stabbed multiple times near the corner of East Broadway and Pike Street at about 8:07 a.m. on November 7.
He was unconscious and unresponsive by the time officers from the 5th Precinct arrived on the scene. Detectives obtained information that led them to Lin in Tennessee. The motive for the murder remains unknown, and it is unclear if Cheung knew his attacker
