Hopewell, N.Y. An Ontario County man who's facing animal cruelty charges is accused of pointing a gun at deputies over the weekend.

The Ontario County Sheriff's Office responded Sunday afternoon to Alan Scrivener's home on Stoddard Road in Hopewell for a welfare check after an acquaintance reported concerns about his health. Scrivener, 72, allegedly aimed a shotgun at the responding deputies — who ended up leaving the scene — and didn't respond to their commands to drop the firearm.After roughly five hours of failing to make contact with Scrivener, a SWAT team forced their way into his home, where he was found hiding in a bedroom on the second floor, according to OCSO.
Scrivener is charged with menacing a police or peace officer. He was arraigned and released on his own recognizance, deputies said. Scrivener was also charged last week with 10 counts of animal cruelty and neglect after authorities found the remains of three horses on his property, with at least five more horses stuck in manure.
