We chat with Mae Whitman (maebirdwing) & Carlos Valdes about their adorable chemistry in new musical romance UpHere, as well as how it feels to look back on their roles in GoodGirls and TheFlash:

Based on the original stage show by Kristen Anderson-Lopez and Robert Lopez, all eight episodes of Up Here will be available to stream on Hulu starting Friday, March 24. The musical romantic comedy follows Lindsay and Miguel's love story as they fall for one other in the most unprecedented of ways. With both characters haunted by their pasts, Lindsay and Miguel must work together to slay their internal demons if they want any chance of a brighter future.

Mae Whitman & Carlos Valdes Talk Up Here Screen Rant: If your inner thoughts were expressed through musical numbers, who would you each want to be singing them to you? How much musical experience did you each have before this role? Is this something you've always wanted to do or did the opportunity just happen to present itself?

All of my friends and family being like, "You can do it!" and pushing me. Even after I did the audition, I was like, "You know what? Even if I don't get this, at the very least, I'm proud of myself that I went up, and I was able to try to do this and feel good about it," and then I f*cking got it.

Mae Whitman: Of course. Honestly, I have been so lucky that I feel like [with] the characters that I've played, there's always been the impetus to bring a part of myself to them. That's always been something that's been encouraged. Having the life and the energy and sort of just the vulnerability, I think that's something that—God knows I have a lot of issues—but I bring that to most of the characters as a real honesty and a tenderness. It's not perfect.
