DPS says the closure will be 'extensive' and there is no current estimated time for reopening
YAVAPAI COUNTY, AZ — US 93 is closed from I-40 to just northwest of Wickenburg after a deadly crash involving four vehicles Thursday morning.
Arizona Department of Public Safety officials say the crash took place near mile marker 179, which is west of Congress and about 20 miles northwest of Wickenburg.ABC15 Arizona Live Video DPS says a box truck traveling north reportedly crossed the center line and collided head on with a semi-truck heading southbound.The driver of the box truck was pronounced dead at the scene.The fire from the truck did spread to nearby brush, but that fire has been contained.
Two other commercial vehicles were involved in the crash, including one that was hauling dirt-form copper concentrate, according to DPS.Both directions of US 93 are closed as the crash is investigated and cleaned up.US 93 is the main roadway connecting Phoenix and Las Vegas. ABC15 has reported for years about serious and even deadly crashes on US 93, especially between Interstate 40 and Wickenburg.
