For six decades, Sosa has identified with what he regarded as the GOP’s core principles: freedom, personal responsibility, entrepreneurship, family and opportunity. In 2020, Sosa joined forces with the Lincoln Project, a group of fellow disaffected Republicans, by crafting an anti-Trump commercial featuring his old friend, actor Edward James Olmos, as the pachuco character Olmos portrayed in the 1981 film, “Zoot Suit” .
“I still call myself a Republican. But I am a repulsed Republican, as some people say. Sometimes I wonder if I should be an independent. Maybe I am an independent, I just haven’t called myself one yet.”
