What did MPs have to say about record migration figures?
Lincolnshire MPs say record migration figures show that British people should be training for more skilled jobs.
Local residents, politicians and West Lindsey District Council have strongly opposed the Home Office’s proposal – saying it will scupper £300 million regeneration and heritage plans for the base. “Isn’t an obvious solution to this, to insist that everyone who comes in is skilled and earns the UK median salary? Then we can boost productivity and get British people back to work.”
“I am confident that the Government’s recent plans on students will help, we need to look at hardening the rules further and also better train our own people for jobs, especially vocational jobs. Net migration peaked at 273,000 in 2007 under the last Labour government – over 300,000 less than the figures released by the ONS on Thursday.Cleethorpes MP Martin Vickers interjected on the Urgent Question raised at the House of Commons today, expressing the concerns he has been hearing from residents.
