Lina Hidalgo to hold fundraiser with Jill Biden weekend before Election Day

The Sunday fundraiser also comes after the end of Texas' 12-day early voting period, which wraps up Friday. In recent elections, the majority of voters have cast their ballots early or by mail, leaving a smaller pool of voters up for grabs on Election Day. Just 29 percent of the 1.2 million votes in Hidalgo's 2018 win over Emmett came on Election Day. Hidalgo's seven-point edge among Election Day voters helped her overcome a deficit among absentee ballots, however, ultimately swinging the race in her favor.
A total of 566,000 people in Harris County already had voted early or returned their mail ballots through Wednesday.announcing the phone bank with Harris, Hidalgo said her campaign was"on track to call 1 million voters this week."
