A brief snowfall brought flurries and light snow to the Chicago area Thursday evening, resulting in hazardous road conditions and traffic delays.
Winds picked up as a clipper system moved in, with flurries starting in the evening commute. Snow is in the forecast for the Chicago area starting Thursday evening. The Chicago area could see a dusting to up to two inches of snow. The heavier snow is expected to stay north of the Chicago area. A slight coating of snow could be seen in parts of Evanston Thursday night, but it quickly turned to rain around the area. Snow plows and salt spreaders have been working to clear the expressways.
While the snowfall was short-lived, it did cause some headaches for drivers. It was a messy evening commute for many drivers, especially close to the Illinois-Wisconsin border. Car crashes piled up along I-94. A jack-knifed semi caused a big backup.The Round Lake area dealt with hazardous road condition, too. Emergency crews responded after one driver slammed into a mailbox.The snowfall also made its way to the city, but it didn't stick around for long throughout the Loop. The streets and sanitation department sent out salt spreaders to help keep the roads safe.There is a chance Friday could see lake-effect snow in Northwest Indiana and possibly along the lakeshore in Illinois. Some people ABC7 spoke to said they hope the snow will be back for Christmas next week. However, looking ahead to Christmas, it does not appear there is any snow in the forecast
