Inventor builds rideable 3D-printed AT-AT walker with metal brackets, brushed motors, and servo legs using potentiometer feedback system.
The test proved the 3D-printed gears’ effectiveness and the design’s stability, with the chassis moving at 1 meter per second.In a video posted by YouTuber James Bruton , the builder discusses the development of a rideable AT-AT model, having previously created a smaller version using 3D prints and servos for movement.
In this project, the creator aims to build a larger version of an AT-AT walker big enough to ride on. He previously constructed a smaller version usingThis earlier version featured a unique gear arrangement for leg articulation and could even turn on the spot by swinging its legs outward. These legs are strong enough to effortlessly support and lift the creator’s weight. While the smaller AT-AT used radio servos capable of precise positioning through PWM signals, the larger model only employs DC motors, which lack positional feedback.The video showcases the assembly and testing of a robotic chassis equipped with multiple Lazy Susans and aluminum plates.
According to Bruton, once assembled, the chassis demonstrated promising results when powered on, exhibiting some flexibility but remaining stable during operation.
