Michael Dines told San Antonio police he shot a woman he picked up who turned out to be a man. Turns out he was wrong.
A San Antonio man has been convicted of murder and sentenced to life in prison in the fatal shooting of a woman he thought was a man. A Bexar County jury this week heard testimony and viewed evidence in the trial of Michael John Dines , 52, who fatally shot Kerstin Marie Taylor , 56, whom authorities described as a homeless person.
A Bexar County medical examiner testified that Taylor was a woman from birth and had not made or begun any transition. Defense attorneys challenged the admissability of the confessions as evidence and in the trial's punishment phase asked the judge to allow the jury to consider “sudden passion,” directly caused by and arising out of provocation by the victim, to lower his sentence.
