Readers are concerned about addressing the climate change crisis, while others are worried about investing in only one form of power.The writer asserts, “As asylum-seekers cross, it will test our antiquated power grid.”

I fail to see the connection, unless they believe that a significant percentage of asylum-seekers remain in Texas for more than a few weeks — data I have not found. Perhaps he will provide more rational substantiation for his thesis?Residents of San Antonio and all communities serviced by City Public Service, please make yourselves heard to all individuals that we should not put all our eggs in one basket.Wishful thinking about power from solar and wind is not a proven commodity.

Burning fossil fuels — the principal culprit in climate change — also contributes to the biodiversity crisis. Other actions to curb one would help curb the other as well. Both require that we stop new fossil fuel development and destructive exploitation of biodiverse ecosystems. Beginning with high hopes and lofty goals, both conferences ended with actions inadequate to ward off catastrophe. Wealthy nations were unwilling to pay what many considered their fair share. Important goals and actions were watered down by lobbyists and nations whose short-term interests would be adversely affected by strong action.Carol Steinhart, Madison, Wis.
