Letter: Mike Lee 'uttered bald-faced lies to save his political skin.'

“When the truth is found to be lies, and all the joy within you dies, don’t you want somebody to love, you better find somebody to love.”that our recently reelected senior senator from the state of Utah actually did play a significant role in those lies. The Christmas Eve edition of the Salt Lake Tribune front page points out just how much our dear senator was involved in this charade. How sad.

How sad that he stood on the debate stage with Evan McMullin and denied, denied, denied. Apparently his denial, akin to the lies of the Nixon administration, was of the “nondenial-denial” version. Something in his assertion that he had nothing to do with the “big lie” must have had a whisper enough of truth for him that he stood there and uttered bald-faced lies to save his political skin.

Although I suspect not a few Utahns would support this kind of “fib” if it saved a Republican seat in the Senate, we find ourselves in 2023 being represented by a highly-educated constitutional lawyer who knows just how to manipulate the English language and the U.S. Constitution enough to ensure that he has another six years in his plush senate office. Disgraceful.

Letter: $500 million gondola budget could instead go toward buying water rights from alfalfa farmersLetter: $500 million gondola budget could instead go toward buying water rights from alfalfa farmersThe Great Salt Lake is shrinking. Many articles in The Tribune have described the environmental disaster now occurring that will worsen if the lake continues to dry out. The cause is not in dispute: more water is leaving the lake, through evaporation and industrial use, than is coming into it. The solution is easy to understand: deliver more water to the lake and it will either shrink more slowly, stabilize, or begin to refill.
