Letter: 'In some instances, the voucher program will pay $8,000 of state money to home school children by parents who think they know everything and have no interest in exposing their children/students to conflicting ideas.'
Gov. Spencer Cox delivers his 2023 State of the State address to the Utah State Legislature at the Capitol in Salt Lake City on Thursday, Jan. 19, 2023.The Tribune’s editorial board hit the nail on the head in its, “Utah Legislature and governor have abandoned public education.” One could ask if vouchers were such a good idea, why didn’t the Legislature let the issue stand on its own rather than getting the system passed by holding teachers’ pay raises as ransom in the process.
What we must remember is that the last few years have demonstrated that there is much uneducated thinking and there are many ridiculous theories at play. Some ideas are just plain wrong, either factually or morally. There is also much ridiculousness on what is, for lack of a better term, the liberal side of the aisle. It was OK for a man to be fired for using the term niggardly . And a speaker should be banned from a college campus because the administration, the faculty, or the students disagree with the speaker’s ideology?
