It's great to see!

Leeds City Council has explained how its teams have managed to keep the bustling high streets immaculate. The local authority said it works in partnership with West Yorkshire Police and volunteers.

Crews are sent out to keep the streets clean 24 hours a day with the bulk of the sweeping work from 8pm until 8am. They also perform a range of other tasks like furniture washing, graffiti removal, litter-picking and litter bin emptying, among other important tasks. A spokesperson for Leeds City Council said: “The city centre cleansing and enforcement team is a small team of dedicated and passionate officers who work as part of a wider partnership approach to ensuring the city centre is clean, safe and welcoming."They work in close collaboration with colleagues and partners from city centre management, West Yorkshire Police/Safer Leeds, the council’s events team, Leeds BID and the street support team.

“The team works 24 hours a day and seven days a week and is supported by a dedicated nights team which undertakes the bulk of the mechanical sweeping of roads and pathways between 8pm and 8am.

"Further support is provided by our littering enforcement contractor deploying staff across the city centre to deter littering and issue fines where littering offences take place. The team take great pride in the work they do and we are grateful to these colleagues and partners for their tireless commitment and efforts.”
