Jonathan Paul Jones, a former deputy U.S. marshal, is accused of intoxication manslaughter in the 2020 wrong-way crash that killed Taylor Angelle McCowan, 23. He faces up to 20 years if convicted of the second-degree felony.A former deputy U.S. marshal accused of intoxication manslaughter in the death of a UTSA graduate in 2020 didn't have his lights on when he slammed into a vehicle that was trying to exit Loop 1604, prosecutors said as his trial opened Thursday.
He told the panel the defendant did not have his headlights on. McCowan swerved to the left as Jones took evasive action and turned to the right. "Taylor was pinned in her vehicle, her breathing was shallow," Brown told the panel."There were no signs of comprehension. She could not answer questions." McCowan, a graduate of the University of Texas at San Antonio who was a devout Christian involved in missionary and mentoring, was taken to University Hospital, he said. Later, she was transferred to Ben Taub Hospital in Houston to be near family. She never regained consciousness and was on life support until her death on Feb. 15, 2020.
