A lawsuit contends a diabetic Cuyahoga County Corrections Officer didn't get proper breaks to check in glucose levels, leading to his death

Warren Johnson didn’t get enough breaks to check his glucose levels while at work, according to the lawsuit.CLEVELAND, Ohio - The family of corrections officer Warren Johnson wants answers, filing a lawsuit blaming Cuyahoga County for this death a little more than a year ago.

Johnson worked as a corrections officer for more than two decades, the last three of his years at Cuyahoga County. When his time ran out for the reduced shifts under the Family Medical Leave Act , the county offered three breaks a day during those 16-hour shifts so he could manage his blood sugar and, if needed, give himself insulin.

“And that is unfortunately the last day he worked at the Justice Center,” Mapley continued. “He was transported by ambulance from the Justice Center to the Emergency that day following a very dramatic spike in his blood glucose levels and was never able to return to work.”
