What was predicted to be a moderate G2-rated geomagnetic storm last weekend turned out to be a G4-rated event, close to the maximum possible—known as G5—which causedAlthough the weekend's aurora were not as vivid as May's, some sighted them with the naked eye as far south as California. That said, many of the images you will likely see were undoubtedly taken using long-exposure photographs.G2 storms can generally be seen as far south as New York and Idaho.
