The 2024-2025 Farmers’ Almanac predicts Northeast Ohio will experience a cold winter with heavy snow.
Lakewood 's city salt bin located near the dog park, where residents have access to a different bin for free salt. That’s why Lakewood is reminding residents about its free salt program, which started two years ago.
The city is offering residents up to five gallons of free rock salt for personal use on driveways and sidewalks. “I’m not surprised it was successful living in Northeast Ohio and understanding the winter season,” Lakewood Public Works Director Chris Gordon said.Going into the third year, the mayor said the city improved the salt boxes by adding covers keeping out moisture.
“We put them in locations that we’ve got eyes on them just to make sure that we don’t have anybody taking more than their fair share. So ever since the first year, we’ve had smooth sailing.”
